Course Unit Description
The course introduces the students to farmer communities. Gives the students opportunity to practice the theory of community extension while passing on knowledge and skills they have acquired to farmers.
Course Objective
- To enable the student work together with a community to solve its farming problems
- Explain how to plan and carryout extension work/farmer training in a specified farming community.
- Equip students with practical community extension skill and help them share the knowledge and skill they have acquired with farmers
- Provide students with farmer community experience before they graduate
- Help students gain field experience which may help them once they leave the University
- Help dissemination of research findings from the university
- To understand the operationalization of a plant clinic
Learning Outcome
At the end of the course, the students should be able to:
- Work together with a community to solve its farming problems
- Design and implement intervention strategy among farmer communities
- Appropriately pass information to farmers and help them improve their livelihoods.
- Be a change agent in the communities
- Assess farming needs of a community
- Carryout and plan selected agricultural training activities in the selected community.
- Operate a plant clinic
