Course Unit Description

The course covers the definitions and characteristics of the various exceptionalities as well as the accommodations made for students within the general education setting. The course equips graduate students with skills of identifying, and helping exceptional children, and preventing the most vulnerable and at-risk children from tipping over to disability. The course will enable the students appreciate the concepts of exceptionality, disability, handicaps, disorders and their origins, measurement, support services, as well as their remedies, and the educational implications.

Course Objectives
This course has been designed to:

  • Help students appreciate and integrate Exceptionality in teaching 
  • Enable students examine the different types of Exceptionalities 
  • Equip Students with basic skills in handling Exceptional Children
  • Appreciate the educational challenges in provision of Special Education

By the end of the course, students should be able to;
