Course Unit Description

This course is extension of undergraduate Statistical Mechanics. The course covers applications in equilibrium statistical mechanics. Then, cooperative and critical phenomena will follow, and finally non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.

Course Objectives
The objectives of the course are to:

  • Discuss the applications of equilibrium in statistical mechanics.
  • Explain cooperative phenomena and its application in ferromagnetism.
  • Describe critical phenomena in group theory.
  • Distinguish between equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.

Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

  • Explain the applications of equilibrium in statistical mechanics.
  • Describe cooperative phenomena and its application in ferromagnetism.
  • Explain critical phenomena in group theory.
  • Distinguish between equilibrium and non-equilibrium statistical mechanics.
