Course Unit Description

 This course introduces the students to clinical clerkship in specialized areas like intensive care unit, sexually transmitted disease and HIV/AIDS clinic, tuberculosis, cancer ward and Skin disease clinic. . Students will spend most of the time on the wards participating in patient care. Emphasis will be on mastering clinical skills particularly history taking, examining patients, investigation of patients, interpretation of laboratory results and essential clinical procedure procedures, setting a patient management plan and communication to the patient including counseling. 
 
Course objectives 
By the end of this course, the students should be able to; 

  • To describe the principles of managing the critically sick patient
  • To develop the knowledge and skills for the management of Tuberculosis and HIV/AIDS
  • To discuss the clinical presentation and management of common skin diseases
  • To describe the principles of cancer management.  
  • To describe principles of radiological investigations
