Course Unit Description

This course introduces the students to clinical clerkship in obstetrics and gynecology. Students will spend most of the time on the wards participating in patient care. Emphasis will be on mastering clinical skills particularly history taking, examining patients, investigation of patients, interpretation of laboratory results and essential obstetric procedures, setting a patient management plan and communication to the patient including counselling. 
  
Course objectives 

By the end of this course, the students should be able to; 

  • Develop skills in assessing and managing obstetric emergencies.
  • Develop skills in carrying out essential obstetric and gynecological procedures 
  • Describe the principles of managing obstetric emergencies 
  • Develop skills in palliative care
