MED2102: Cardiovascular and Respiratory System
Course Unit Description
This course covers the embryological development, histology, gross anatomy and functioning of both the cardiovascular and respiratory organs. It also includes biochemical aspects of respiration and provides a foundation for radiological investigations of the chest region.
Course objectives
By the end of the course students should be able to;
- Describe the gross anatomy of the chest cavity and its contents
- Describe the histology of the respiratory and cardiovascular systems
- Explain the embryonic stages of the two systems
- Explain the physiological functioning of important organs of the two systems.
- Describe the biochemistry of the cardiovascular and respiratory systems
- Describe the normal radiology and laboratory findings in the cardio-respiratory system
- Describe the pharmacological basis of respiratory and cardiovascular therapeutics
