Course Unit Description

The course will help students gain theoretical and practical knowledge of corporate financial management. Students will learn corporate governance and agency theory issues in corporate finance and also theories used to set up capital structure of a business corporation. Students will also be guided to discuss issues concerning corporation mergers and acquisitions, financial distress, business failure and corporate restructuring and corporate dividend policies. 

Course Objectives
The course will help students to:

  • Understand the corporate stakeholders and their interests in business corporations
  • Explain the corporate governance practices and the agency theory in business entities
  • Explain general operations of capital markets and the theory of efficient market hypothesis
  • Learn how to determine the specific and overall cost of capital
  • Explain the process involved and methods used for mergers, acquisitions and takeovers.

On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Evaluate Corporate stakeholders’ objectives
  • Discuss Corporate issues concerning mergers & takeovers
