Course Unit Description

The course will help students to appreciate the use of financial management in business enterprises. It will equip students with skills of investment appraisal, working capital management and making decisions on sources of funding investment ventures. Students will also obtain the skills needed for financial analysis and a general understanding of the agency theory. 

The main objectives of the course:

  • Learn different methods of appraising investment projects
  • Understand different techniques of working capital in the day today business operations 
  • Explain different sources of finance for investment projects 
  • Explain the procedure and methods used to analyze performance of different business entities

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Appraise investments using different techniques
  • Describe ways of managing working capital for smooth day today operations
  • Prepare reports to management recommending best sources of finance for selected investment projects
  • Use ratios to analyze performance of different business entities.
