Course Unit Description
Like the previous courses, this is a competency-based training, but this will focus on epidemic and outbreak investigation in a conference setting. It is an intense course that is aimed at building understanding, skills, knowledge and competences from the start of planning of investigation of an epidemic and outbreak, through analysis, to finally packing the information into reports, manuscripts, policy briefs and guidelines. It will integrate all the aspects of the previous courses. It will end up with the production of a Bulletin through which the Students publish their manuscripts.
Aim
To build communication expertise in the Students through packaging of epidemic and outbreak investigation, and communication into a complete process.
Course objectives
At the end of this course, the Students will be well refined in:
- Outbreak investigation
- Disease surveillance
- Measurement of disease
- Use models based on response to infectious and zoonotic diseases such as EVD, Marburg, Measles, and COVID-19 in Uganda and globally to conduct disease outbreak response.
- Implement infection control project
- Communications on disease outbreak

Application of acquired understanding, knowledge, skills and competences in validation and communication of:
- Disease outbreak report.
- Disease surveillance report.
- Report on evaluation of surveillance systems and programmes in place.
- Reports on independent outbreak investigation.
- Reports on public health surveillance system evaluation.
- Dataset.
- Data via abstracts.
- Data via manuscript.
