Course Unit Description

Elements of aquaculture, technological developments and environmental related issues are covered with a particular focus on fish farming. Aquaculture production systems are additionally covered with emphasis on ponds and cage systems. Aquaponics and integrated multi-trophic aquaculture, both of which integrate fish farming and farming plants are addressed.

Learning objective(s) 
By the end of the course, students will be able to;

  • Acquire knowledge and skills in freshwater fish farming. (b) Learn about the aquaculture production systems
  • Learn about the recent innovations and technologies in aquaculture.

Course learning outcome(s)
At the end of the course, students should be able to:

  • Apply the knowledge and skills acquired in freshwater fish farming.
  • Appreciate, identify and recommend a suitable aquaculture production system for a specific site. 
  • Provide innovative solutions of environmental concern in the aquaculture sector.
