Course Unit Description

This course provide a theoretical and practical appreciation of entrepreneurship and innovation in the context of small business, creativity as a form of innovativeness in the SME sector, how to be innovative in the competitive business world. The course also details the significance of innovation among existing and prospectus entrepreneurs of today’s world. This course further introduces students to the elements and attributes of the innovation process as well as the key factors that allow organizations and their workforce to harness this process. It will show students how this process can turn ideas into successful products, processes or services and add economic value to the organizations and society. 


Course Objectives 
The course is intended to enable the students to appreciate the tools, methods and techniques used in innovation management. The course is intended to equip students with the ability to:

  • Conceptualize general aspects of entrepreneurial role in as far as innovation is concerned; 
  • Internalize entrepreneurial dynamics involved in entrepreneurship and innovation;
  • Build on the appreciation of contemporary entrepreneurial attempts towards creativity and innovativeness
  • Develop ability for small businesses to be creative in the competitive business world.

Learning Outcomes
On completion of this course, students should be able to:

  • Describe similarities and differences between various entrepreneurship and innovation
  • Appreciate the significance of entrepreneurship and innovation and how they affect small scale business establishments
  • Evaluate key aspects that drive entrepreneurs to be innovative
