DTB1101 Science Curriculum, Design, Development and Practice
Course Unit Description
The course will cover areas of the Nature of Science, its development and operation. Brief discussion of science process skills will be made including identification and relationship between curriculum elements and planning to teach.
Course Objectives
By the end of the course, students should be able to:
- Define science and explain how science develops
- Use Scientific Methods to solve problems
- Identify limitations of scientific methods
- State process skills
- Develop scientific attitude
- Define and explain science education
- State components and objectives of teaching/learning science in primary schools
- Integrate elements of science curriculum in teaching science
- To develop students’' understanding and experience of the scientific method, To understand its value and limits, and to enable them to apply the methods
- To know, understand at an abstract level, and be able to apply important scientific theories
- To expose students to the practice of science. To give practical experience of how scientists make observations of the natural world, come up with hypotheses and do experiments to obtain evidence to support or disprove these hypotheses
