Course Unit Description
This course is designed to give students the basic knowledge and skills required in the different aspects of crop protection through the identification of common pests and diseases as well as their control measures.
Course Objective
- To explain the different causes of plant diseases.
- To describe the Epidemiology of crop diseases
- To describe the life cycle of common pests of crops
- To impart knowledge and skills in pest and disease diagnosis crops
- To illustrate/demonstrate the different control measures for pests and diseases in the field, greenhouse, and stores
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, the student should be able to:
- Explain common concepts applied in crop protection
- Explain the different causes of plant diseases and describe the life cycle of pathogens.
- Describe the Epidemiology of crop diseases
- Identify common pests and diseases that affect crops based on the signs and symptoms observed
- Apply appropriate measures for the control of pests and diseases in crop fields, greenhouse, and storage using different methods
