Course Unit Description

Music is enjoyed most when it is listened to and or performed.  Aurals and practicals are the total sum and focus of what was covered in the theory of music, i.e. they put the theory into practices.  This course reveals the students' musicianship and builds self confidence in him/her.  The student performs before an audience and is assessed on the spot.  For aural, the student listens (see details below) and writes down what he has heard.  This sharpens his/her musical ear and improves music appreciation as well.  This course is introductory and intensifies in the course of the programme.

Course Objectives
By the end of the course, the students should be able to:

  • Acquire good and accurate musical ear in order to listen to music intelligently, analytically, critically with understanding and appreciation.
  • Be practical as music is a practical subject.
  • Enrich their musicianship by sharing ideas in group performances.

Expected Learning outcome

  • The student should be more practical and musically alert than theoretical.  He should be self confident, not shy, exuberant and convincing
