Course Unit Description

With the daily advances in technology, the traditional pattern of looking for solutions to new problems has died out. A graduate with limited knowledge becomes a liability to organizations. To increase the competitiveness of graduates in chemistry, specialized competencies in chemical computer applications in addition to the general computer knowledge is paramount. “Computer for chemists” is a hands-on course designed specifically to train students of chemistry to use computer to solve daily chemical problems and demystify concepts in chemistry.  

Course Objectives    
By the end of the course, the student is expected to be able to:

  • Apply special computer packages (Chemoffice, chemfinder, chem. solver, MS-Excel, MS-Word, MS-access) in chemistry.
  • View molecules in 2D and 3D using computer programs 
  • Search chemistry content from the web
  • Explore the uses of google drive and google docs to a chemist.
