Course Unit Description

This course introduces the student to the concepts of animal nutrition and pasture production. 

Course objective

  • To equip students with knowledge on animal nutrient requirements, their sources and acquisition. 
  • To equip students with skills of pasture establishment, production and management.

Learning out comes
At the end of this course unit, learners should be able to:

  • Acquire In-depth knowledge in animal nutrition and required animal nutrients and their importance to animals
  • Classify livestock feeds and explain the basis of the classification
  • Know the composition of common feeds, distinguish them, maintenance and production requirements of the animal
  • Compute livestock rations
  • Identify various pasture species and their establishment
  • Maintain, manage, preserve and utilize pastures
