Course Unit Description

This course introduces the students to the abundant wildlife resources available in the country, with emphasis on farming, ranching and economic benefits of exploitation.

 

Course Objectives

  • To make students appreciate the biodiversity of wildlife resources in Uganda and the value of sustainable exploitation
  • To equip students with knowledge on the special physiological and anatomical adaptations of the crocodile and ostriches necessary for farming and ranching
  • To impart knowledge on crocodile and ostrich husbandry practices necessary for farming and ranching
  • To enable students explain the technologies and practices involved in the production and processing of crocodile, ostrich products and guinea fowl products

Learning Outcomes
At the end of this course the student should be able to:

  • Explain the biodiversity of wildlife resources in Uganda and the value of sustainable utilization.
  • Know the crocodile and ostrich industry in Uganda, regionally and globally.
  • Advise farmers on the crocodile, ostrich and guinea fowl husbandry.
  • Explain the appropriate technologies and methods used for production, harvesting and processing of ostrich and crocodile products.
