Course Unit Description

This course introduces the student to the theoretical and practical aspects of feed technology, enabling them to exploit the available feed resources for the benefit of the animal industry.


Course Objectives

  • To explain the nutrient requirement of domestic animals 
  • To train students in methods of feed formulation for domestic animals
  • To train students on the different methods of preparation of ingredients for feed formulation.
  • To equip students with knowledge in  the quality assurance during commercial feed production 

Learning Outcomes
At the end of the course, learners should be able to:

  • Explain the nutrient requirements of animals and relevant dietary standards
  • Explain the methods used in evaluation of feed ingredient 
  • Apply the  principles of least cost feed formulation in the formulation of livestock feed
  • Describe the methods used in the treatment of feed ingredients with anti-nutritional factors
  • To explain the method used in the treatment of low quality ruminant feed.
